So we are on this journey. A journey to eating healthier. Did you read my post about buying a juicer? That was our first step. This is our second. Making premade smoothie packs so we can have healthy snacks anytime. If it isn’t quick we won’t take the time to eat it.
After buying the juicer we discovered we love fruit juice, but only like vegetable juice. So I got to thinking, what is a great way to hide vegetable juice? Smoothies!!
Premade Smoothie Packs
I was at the store and almost bought those pre packaged smoothie packs. Then I saw the price. Upwards of $5 here in Alaska. Yikes. I turned the isle and saw that frozen fruit were basically the same price. So I bought three bags of fruit. Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. When we got to the produce section I saw that they had bananas marked down. So I bought the marked down ones because I knew they would be going into the freezer anyway.
Now you can flash freeze your bananas, but I didn’t. I don’t really have the freezer space. I just got out my freezer bags and put the fruit in. I divided it up pretty evenly, but mixed the variety. I ended up with eight baggies of fruit. That is right! Enough to make eight blenders of smoothies for about the price of three, maybe four of those prepackaged ones. All you have to do is add the liquid of your choice.
I know you are asking how is she going to hide vegetables in that? You can juice three carrots and an apple and use that as the liquid instead of milk. You can still put yogurt and possibly vanilla ice cream in as well. You might have to add milk just for body. Smoothies are all trial and error, you can always add more liquid or more ice cream to get the consistency you want.
