Slave to The Kitchen: Spinach Dip

My family has been making spinach dip for as long as I can remember. In fact I can’t really remember a Christmas that we did not have spinach dip to munch on. This recipe is not a secret. (It’s on the back of the vegetable soup mix from Knorr). We actually make it about every other month or so because my son loves it so much. I just made it over the weekend and thought I would share it with you.

Spinach Dip

spinach dip1Here is what you will need:

  • 1 package (10 oz) frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
  • 1 container (16 oz) sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 package Knorr vegetable recipe soup mix
  • 1 can (8 oz) water chestnuts, drained and chopped (optional)

Start by thawing out your frozen spinach. I run some hot water into a bowl and let it soak in the package while I get the rest of the ingredients together and ready.

spinach dip 2Empty the sour cream into a medium size bowl and add one cup mayonnaise. I eyeball this. Then empty the vegetable soup mix into the sour cream/mayo mixture and stir together.

Then once your spinach is thawed use your kitchen sheers to cut it up into the mixture and stir everything together.

Let your dip chill for two hours for the best flavor. This weekend we just could not wait that long to enjoy this tasty goodness. The following are photos of my son enjoying the dip. He said “Mom Delish!”

MMM give me some of that dip!

That looks yummy but I don’t know if I could get past the mayo. Is the mayo flavor strong? My husband makes a great spinach artichoke dip.
Now he will have to make some this weekend.
    I love love love spinach.

Thanks ladies for linking up and commenting! The Mayo taste is not strong at all. You can’t even taste it. This is so easy to make. We whip this up every couple of weeks and “snack on it” for a few days, mostly when I don’t feel like cooking. This dip, some crackers, some sliced fruit and milk is a great lunch for lazy Saturdays. 🙂
